Learning Support

INTRODUCTION

To ensure there is equality of opportunity in the provision of the course and the students' learning, some students may require extra help. This may be with specific access requirements, such as larger print, or with extra tuition in certain areas. Every effort will be made by the college to provide this support and reasonable adjustments may be made to the course to accommodate individual needs.

IDENTIFYING STUDENTS REQUIRING LEARNING SUPPORT

Students are asked to declare any form of disability or learning difficulty at the point of registration and again at induction. Any student who does declare such an issue will be given an initial interview with the Learning Support Officer to determine what support they require, if any.

Some students, however, may initially feel reluctant to discuss such matters or may, in fact, be unaware of their learning needs. Staff are requested to bring any concerns regarding students ability and learning to the attention of the Learning Support Officer or the Course Leader so that the issue can be pursued.

LEARNING SUPPORT OFFICER

Having identified students' needs in an initial interview, the learning support officer will liaise with staff, personal tutors, the student welfare officer, the course leader and the principal to discuss how provision can be made. They will meet regularly with students requiring additional support to ensure their needs are being met and make adjustments to provision as necessary.
